Day of Infamy - They all have it Infamy!

If you know anything about me, the first question I'd ask would be 'who told you that?'. My second question would be 'have you played Insurgency?'. My third question might be 'why not?!', depending on how you answered the second.

Many hours have I lovingly pumped into this stripped back modern FPS. There's hardly any HUD, no minimap, no annoying killstreaks, no perks, no unlocks and no DLC. Teamwork is an absolute necessity in pursuit of victory where combat is more deadlier than your average bread and butter, run o' the mill deadly.
'But whoa there, slow down' I hear you shouting (and that's not coming from my passengers as I write this review). 'Why am I quite clearly talking about the wrong game?' you might also be asking.
It's because Day of Infamy is made by the same people, and is in many ways a follow on from the glorious Insurgency against which it will inevitably be measured. Sorry Day of Infamy, that's just the way it is.
Day of Infamy is set in WW2 with all the usual guns and gadgets you'd expect from that era. The combat is still deadly AF, and there's still the same stripped back HUD and other minimalist elements and of course the importance of teamwork is thankfully reprised.

Graphics are adequate, and importantly, clear. Animations are fine. The sound is pretty good.
But it's not Insurgency, and that's bad. The maps are too open in some areas and too closed in others, chokepoints force action into usual areas allowing you to spam explosives and ordnance. There is definitely more verticality here, which is a nice touch, but can add to the hectic gameplay which sadly further detracts from the more tactical and calculated gameplay we all love so much in Insurgency.
Don't get me wrong. it's still a good game but you'd be better off going for it's older, smarter sibling first for a superior gaming experience.
Disagree with me? Think I'm full of it? Let us know in the comments.
