Whilst learning a little more about the creation of the Castlevania Cartoon mini-series I stumbled upon something a little bit special - a dark and gruesome unauthorised Power Rangers short film.

What's the link you may be asking? Adi Shanker, the Executive Producer and Showrunner for Castlevania produced Power/Rangers - a 'deboot' homage to Adi's childhood favourite show.

Trying not to give too much away, as you're probably going to watch the Power/Rangers short (after checking out other articles here at Fanagram, obviously :P ), the film is set in a future where the Power Rangers have been defeated by the Machine Empire and the Red Ranger has defected to the Machine Empire and is critical of Zordon for training the Power Rangers as child soldiers, which is a fair point. Try explaining that one Zordon, if you can!

Audio and visual quality is up there, around the 'whoa, cool' mark, even sometimes edging into 'awww sweet!'. The action however, whilst ambitious, does have a touch of 'fan-film-ness' about it, but this only makes it more at home with the official Power Rangers production. Amarite?

The dialogue is well written and well delivered, most markedly by the antagonist, former-Red Ranger Rocky, portrayed by James David Van Der Beek, more popularly known for his role in Dawson's Creek (if you're into that sort of thing... ). Rocky's prosthetic parts are a little too noisy though and did get a little annoying as the machinery whines and whirls over even the slightest movement.. He ain't sneaking up on no-one!

This film is grown-up in all areas; strong language, violence, drugs and sexual references throughout the creators clearly mark Power/Rangers for a more mature audience. That's me - I'm a more mature audience!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the 15 minutes it took to watch (11 mins 45 seconds if you skip the credits) and, if I know you dear reader, I think you will too!

Let us know in the comments if I know you as well as I think I do!
