Oh hi, didn't see you there! I was just reminiscing about last night's Fanagram Cardiff Boardgame Group. Oh the memories, it feels like it was just yesterday. Pull up a chair and I'll tell you all about it.

Clank! got some table time - this was the first time I've seen this in the wild and I gotta say it looks nice. The group playing this all seemed to be having fun. Being a fan of both deck-building and adventure Clank!: A Deck-Building Adventure is definitely on my list. If you've played this let us know in the comments how well these two elements balance out.

When game designer Martin Wallace pitched A Study in Emerald to Treefrog Games he told them about his plans to combine Sherlock Holmes, Lovecraft and real 19th century history into a boardgame including elements of area control, deck building and hidden identities one of the suited Execs said "that sounds like fun". Wallace responded with "no shit Sherlock!". This is exactly what happened. Fact. Now in its streamlined second edition, A Study in Emerald, is a gorgeous game, sporting revamped art and tighter mechanics. Don't miss out on any chance you get to play this absolute gem of a game.

Sub Terra, somewhat of a regular at the Cardiff Fanagram Board Game Club had players cooperatively escaping a cave system, replete with cave ins, floods and other hazards. Topical much?... Featuring a tile placement exploration mechanic and tough decisions, teamwork and character specialisation maximisation is critical if you are to survive and emerge victorious.

Gunit and I got destroyed (again) by Arkham Horror Card Game. We survived until the third part of the core set campaign only to have our dreams and hopes crushed under the weight of Lovecraftian hopelessness. I no doubt enjoy this game, but would only tentatively use the word 'fun' to describe the emotions one feels playing it. Desperation, desolation and despair seem far more apt. Give it a go!

Another notable from the evening includes Carcassone with so many expansions it should be called Carcass-million.
