Cardiff Board Game Group Recap - 06.09.18

Ahoy ahoy friend. Come on in, grab a seat, make yourself comfortable. Take off your pants if you want. Sit back and relax as I recount to you the events of last night’s Fanagram Cardiff Boardgaming Group.

Our numbers have grown so much that we now require multiple tables to fit us all. I know right – pretty impressive huh?..

I launched my evening of tabletop gaming with a cooperative escapade of escape the cave that is Sub Terra. On the team we had The Bodyguard, The Medic, The Diver and (me) The Climber. Not sure what the Bodyguard was doing in a cave, but they ended up being invaluable by dispatching a sudden flood of monsters and sacrificing themselves for what was almost a narrow escape. Unfortunately though, the whole group perished as a result of some terrible rolls following the ‘Out of Time’ card. Despite defeat we all had a laugh. I’d really like to see this game under UV light – the Kickstarter editions have UV bits on most pieces and tiles...

After Sub Terra I got into a brilliant session of Mice and Mystics. It was the first time I’d played this game and I am definitely a fan. Accurately described to me as “RPG in a box”, I found the balance of narrative and mechanics spot on – the setting is incredibly evocative and the rules are deep enough for customisation yet light enough for reduced down time between turns and fast play. We escaped cockroaches, rats and a vicious crow and collected loot, levelled up and overcame obstacles and ultimately completed the chapter. I look forward to playing this more (Simon....).

A metric crap-ton of other games were played over the course of the evening – but I was a little too involved with Mice and Mystics that I forgot to visit other groups and get pictures so ermm... my bad.
