So I wrote about Far Cry 5 almost two months ago to the day as a first Impression, and I was pretty impressed.

Having played the previous 4 installments of the game this Far Cry reaches a happy medium for both new and old players.

There is nothing new to this compared to other games, not really. But there is now a genuine reason for it all.

The endless grind now has a purpose, you no longer have endless activities that are ultimately pointless in the grand scheme of the game, but each side activity now acts as a way to drive the game forwards. Which is something I have often struggled with in games. Especially large open world games. The grind is only so engaging and fun and while you may be awarded with some legendary weapon or armour it is only as good as the next DLC or add on to a game that forces you to go through it all again.

While Far Cry 5 does offer these types of activity, the rewards yielded from purely optional side activities do no offer enough of a reward to make them necessary. I think that this a winning formula.

If you want to get the best fishing rod and go for a platinum trophy then go and fish to your hearts content. If you want to have some fun races and perform super stunts then do the Clutch Nixon challenges.

If you want to advance the story then you need to undertake some hard graft. there are a good amount of story missions and side quests to keep you going or you can take outposts.

This Far Cry staple mechanic now advances the resistance meter, which in turn will activate one of the main story missions with the various members of the Seed family.

There are some enemy balance issues, particularly in the scale of A.I intelligence in the game, but to make a game where you can go anywhere from the start and have the same level of challenge from the get go does require some sacrifices. No part of the game is blocked off from you. There are some areas that are difficult to get to without a grappling hook or parachute, but these can be purchased in the upgrade menu for next to nothing. So nothing is closed off to you for very long.

This game is by no means perfect, no game is. But it's a hell of a lot of fun.

You can double the fun with a friend! While only the progress made in the host players game is carried over, this does not perk points.

Just make sure you bring along a friend who won't spook the locals or throw grenades at the wrong people. That doesn't end well!

So it's two months on and I am still playing this game. Considering it is not an MMO or an online shooter it has managed to capture my otherwise limited attention span and even less time. I still look forwards to jumping in and finding out what will happen next.

I would recommend this game to both fans of the series and newcomers. There is very little learning curve and is easy to jump in to, so go ahead. If you are unsure I would say it is definitely worth it.

If you are a fan of open world games or first person shooters then this game will almost certainly be for you!
