Over the weekend I was going through steam and found this little gem of a game called Slay The Spire, the game itself is in early access but has overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam, if that's enough to buy the game then check out the link here.

The idea of the Slay The Spire is simple, it's a rouge-like dungeon crawler which has been done so many times before, but it's also a deck building game with a set amount of cards at the start of the run and I think an unlimited amount of cards you can collect. Much like other dungeon rouge-like games it starts off easy but gets harder the deeper you go.

There are currently only two classes in the game, a Warrior type class that focuses on attacking and building up your shield (blocking), or a Magic type class that focuses on poison attacks and buffs.

At the end of each turn you see the intention of what the enemy or enemies are going to do on their turn, unless they have a buff activated or you picked up a curse that stops you seeing. Normal attacks take away HP but are blocked by a shield, however shields are also taken away at the end of each turn (again unless a particular buff has been activated) there are a number of buffs and debuffs you can use; from additional strength, gaining a shield for each card you play or increasing the amount of damage an enemy can take. Poison in this game is not affected by shields but reduces how much HP it takes away each turn.

The artwork is nothing to shout about, but considering its still in early access they have plenty of time to improve this. One of the biggest things I like about the game, is the risk and reward aspect, at the start of each level you are given a map with your choice of multiple paths to follow, you have the standard enemy, mini bosses, rest areas and shops, depending which path you take you may only rest once or twice before the big boss at the end of each level.

Overall I found myself playing this game thinking I have 20 mins to spare and end up playing for a couple hours because I have had a really good run.

Lets break it down! - Sneak Peak!

Been pretty busy this week but want to show a little sneak peak on the next break it down post I have been working on, I'm sure by the image you can work out what character I am working on.

Here is the link to the game play of Slay The Spire, and here's a link again to buy it on steam.
